Eric Duell joined the EEB program in August 2025 and is an Assistant Professor at Texas A&M University in the Department of Ecology & Conservation Biology. Using a combination of lab, greenhouse, and field experiments, his work aims to tease apart the intricate relationships between plants and their associated soil microbiomes. He is particularly interested in arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi, an important plant mutualist that aids in plant uptake of nutrients. Using the plant-AM fungal study system, his work addresses ecological questions at several scales, from individual plant health to community structuring, to even broader ecosystem services like carbon storage, nutrient cycling, and soil structure.
