Keynote Speaker
Our keynote speaker this year is Dr. Giri Athrey, an associate professor in the Department of Poultry Science and faculty within the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and Biotechnology programs at Texas A&M University.
Dr. Athrey’s talk title is “Cultivating Change: Ancient Answers to Modern Questions” and will begin at 6:30 pm in the AGLS Building.
Dr. Athrey received his Bachelors from Bangalore University in 2001, his masters from the University of Louisiana – Lafayette, and then his PhD in 2009 from University of Louisiana – Lafayette as well. He studies phenotypic variation and adaptations in domesticated and wild populations of poultry. Dr. Athrey’s specific interests include understanding how phenotypes and genotypes interact, comparative *omics, evolutionary/population genomics, microbiome and immune interactions, and avian circadian systems. He aims to understand how we can use functional genomics of domesticated birds to sustainably feed our growing population.
