Darwin Day 2023

The Ecology & Evolutionary Biology Program at Texas A&M University presents

An Annual Celebration of All Things Biology!

Darwin Day 2023
Friday, March 3rd, 5 – 8 pm

The Gardens at TAMU
FREE and Open to All

Darwin Day it is an EEB-related event open to TAMU students, faculty and their families, and the public. Labs or other groups create booths with activities, games, and hands-on experiences for people of all ages to learn about biology, live animals, and evolution.

Another great event this year! Check out some of the photos.

Keynote Speaker

Our keynote speaker this year is Dr. Giri Athrey, an associate professor in the Department of Poultry Science and faculty within the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and Biotechnology programs at Texas A&M University.

Dr. Athrey’s talk title is “Cultivating Change: Ancient Answers to Modern Questions” and will begin at 6:30 pm in the AGLS Building.

Dr. Athrey received his Bachelors from Bangalore University in 2001, his masters from the University of Louisiana – Lafayette, and then his PhD in 2009 from University of Louisiana – Lafayette as well. He studies phenotypic variation and adaptations in domesticated and wild populations of poultry. Dr. Athrey’s specific interests include understanding how phenotypes and genotypes interact, comparative *omics, evolutionary/population genomics, microbiome and immune interactions, and avian circadian systems. He aims to understand how we can use functional genomics of domesticated birds to sustainably feed our growing population. To date Dr. Athrey has over 30 publications and several book chapters, while also keeping a full lab of graduate students.
