Open Source Open Science Workshop 2017

When:  Friday, Sept 1  through Sunday, Sept 3

Where:  301 Rudder Tower, Texas A&M University, College Station, TX

SIGN UP HERE

Open Source for Open Science (OSOS) 2017 is a free workshop aimed to familiarize participants with selected open source software and programing tools to be able to conduct quantitative analysis and statistical methods for scientific inquiry.

This year we are excited to have four module instructors focusing on an introduction to R, graphics in R, intermediate R tools for data handling, multivariate ordination in R, geometric morphometrics in R, and an introduction to Perl for bioinformatics work.

This course is aimed at incoming EEB graduate students; however, you need not be in EEB or a graduate student to attend. In addition, you may receive 1 credit hour of EEBL 612 for this course in the Fall 2017 semester.

After you sign up, you will receive an email with more details about required downloads and expectations in a few weeks. A laptop is required to follow this course. We have space for a maximum of 84 participants, so sign up asap if you would like to attend.

Learning Outcomes:  Students will leave this course with the ability to program in R for their research and coursework. They will be able to get data into R, make graphs, conduct statistical analyses, view and analyze shape data, and access and explore data repositories. They will be able to find critical R resources for further in depth learning in R. Students will also have the ability to begin to program in Perl for bioinformatics work.

Required:  A laptop is required for this workshop.
