Summary: This workshop is specifically designed to address the needs of scientists to communicate scientific or technical information in a variety of public and professional interactions, but primarily focused on media interviews and participating in public forums. Workshop goals include building scientists’ communication skill and confidence in engaging with public audiences and providing best practices for use of different communication methods and mechanisms. Participants learn how to identify a public engagement goal, determine the relevant audience, craft tailored messages to achieve their goal and rehearse their engagement scenario. Participants will learn how to handle press inquiries, to placing feature stories and undertaking a media campaign. This section also includes practical tips on building relationships with national, trade and broadcast journalists. This year we are combining the EEBISO Crawfish Boil and the ABS Annual Social so mark your calendar for April 27, at 7pm, generously hosted by Dr. Lee Fitzgerald. Contact Alyson Brokaw or Gaston Rodriguez for the address.
The event will be BYOB. Also, please bring a side dish or dessert to share.
EEBISO will be hosting a silent auction to raise funds to support EEB and EEB-affiliated graduate students for things like travel grants. If you have an item you would like to donate for the auction, please contact Alyson Brokaw (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Gaston Jofre Rodriguez (email@example.com).
Darwin shirts (in adult and child sizes) will be available for purchase at the party. Significant others, families and friends are all welcome.
See you all there!
