Zachary Hancock is a first year PhD student who received his undergraduate degree from Texas A&M University-Texarkana. There, his research focused on the ecology and distribution of littoral freshwater microcrustacea of the Suborder Cladocera.
He has a particular interest in the phenotypic response to environmental cues displayed by certain daphniids (cyclomorphosis). He is broadly interested in the evolution and phylogenetics of the branchiopods and malacostracans.
Josh Perkin is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences. He received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from Texas State University-San Marcos and Ph.D. from Kansas State University. His research focus is freshwater fish ecology and conservation, with emphasis on riverine landscapes, reproductive ecology of fishes, and the effects of drought on fish populations and communities. Recent research projects include effects of groundwater depletion on Great Plains stream fish communities, prioritizing native fish reintroductions into Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and conservation planning based on linking fish traits to riverscape alterations such as land use change and stream impoundment.
Heath Blackmon received his Ph.D. in 2015 from the University of Texas at Arlington where he studied the evolution of sex chromosomes and karyotypes in Coleoptera and other invertebrates. He then transitioned to a postdoc for two years at the University of Minnesota. In Minnesota, he worked on a variety of projects spanning theoretical population genetics and macroevolutionary methods.
His lab will focus on evolutionary genomics with a particular concentration on understanding the dynamics of sex chromosome evolution. [Read more…] about Spotlight: Heath Blackmon
Dr. Jessica Light is an Associate Professor in the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences, the Mammal Curator at the Biodiversity Research and Teaching Collections, and Communications Chair for EEB.
Dr. Light is a native Michigander and received her B.S. from University of Michigan. She then moved south and obtained her Ph.D. from Louisiana State University and completed a postdoctoral position at University of Florida.
Research in the Light lab is focused broadly in evolutionary biology with a focus on systematics, population genetics, and coevolutionary associations between distantly related organisms, particularly mammals and their parasites. [Read more…] about Spotlight: Jessica Light
Welcome to EEB’s newest associate faculty member David Scott!
Dr. Scott is a Professor in the Department of Recreation, Park and Tourism Sciences. His research is the sociology of leisure with a focus on the human dimensions of wildlife.
Over the last 20 years he has studied diversity in styles of participation among birdwatchers, and factors that constrain participation in outdoor recreation activities, including fishing and wildlife watching.
