Spotlight: Heath Blackmon

September 20, 2017

Heath Blackmon received his Ph.D. in 2015 from the University of Texas at Arlington where he studied the evolution of sex chromosomes and karyotypes in Coleoptera and other invertebrates. He then transitioned to a postdoc for two years at the University of Minnesota. In Minnesota, he worked on a variety of projects spanning theoretical population genetics and macroevolutionary methods.

His lab will focus on evolutionary genomics with a particular concentration on understanding the dynamics of sex chromosome evolution.  [Read more…] about Spotlight: Heath Blackmon

Intrepid scientists, brave daddies, and so-so appliance repairmen.

True to his calling, Dr. Gabe Hamer (ENTO) and his helpers investigate why the dryer wasn’t working. What did they discover?  Well, let’s just say the problem wasn’t lint in the air filter.

Spotlight: Jesse Meik

May 2, 2017

Welcome to EEB’s new adjunct faculty member Jesse Meik!

Dr. Meik is an assistant professor of biology at Tarleton State University and studies ecology and comparative evolutionary biology. His major research interests include systematics, taxonomy, and biogeography of reptiles and amphibians, and the evolution of body size and sexual size dimorphism. He has worked extensively in Mexico, where he has conducted research on treefrogs, blunt-headed vine snakes, and island populations of rattlesnakes.
